    Inside a rural Indian call centre – outsourcing builds a new life in the country

     

     

    India’s countryside is undergoing a creeping transformation. People find a none of the fancy buildings, multi-cuisines food courts, night shifts, 24/7 operations, accent neutralization training or the company gyms that the normally accompany the arrival if the India’s high tech industry or any of the other trappings of the big city.  The India’s smaller towns and the rural areas are beginning to feel the impact of the change wrought by the country’s Information Technology sector.  The Indian Technology and the back office processing companies have already transformed urban economies.  They are looking outside the major conurbations and into the countryside wherein they are altering the unemployment landscape and bringing about the social change.

    The revenues last year, India’s rural business processing outsourcing firms notched up $10 million.  The figures may seem insignificant in an outsourcing industry worth that the $60 billion in the revenues.  The employment in the rural BPO company grew 1.6 times during the period between  2007 and 2009.  The rural and the small town BPO are a few billion dollar business opportunity.  The organization locates its centers in a small towns with the abundant supplies of the talent as measured by the quality of the educational institutions in the area, low costs, availability of bandwidth and the energy infrastructure and the local entrepreneurs who are willing invest as a partners.

    In the next three years, the next wealth has a four centers in the three locations and employs 500 people.  The rural BPO can provide sound economic benefits such as a 50 percent reduction in the costs over the similar operations in the Bangalore.  It makes some of the processes that such as NextWealth’s services for a German online photo book creator, economically viable.  The costs come out at less than $3 per photo book, if people compared with the $6 for the equivalent work in the Bangalore.  The company is also handling the creation of the online menus for the Silicon Valley restaurants.  These operations are run out of its Business Process Outsourcing in Chotoor in the neighboring Andhra Pradesh state. The rural BPO are cost effective as the labor, property and the other operational expenses are low.  The Business Process outsourcing are viewed as a boon to the rural India.  They lessen the rural migration, it reduce the stress on the crowded megacities such as the New Delhi and Mumbai, it is the advance standards of the living promote gender equality and to improve the social and the physical infrastructure.
