Anti outsourcing bill in US targeting offshore call centers

In an attempt to prevent the jobs that is being outsourced to the o9ffshore locations, the legislatures in US have put forward a bipartisan bill in the parliament that would penalize, American firms for moving their call centers to the offshore locations by declaring such a companies ineligible for the grants or the guaranteed loans from the government.  By the Rep. Tim Bishop and Rep. David Mckinley, the bill was introduced in the house, it is said that the bill will introduced some belligerent regulations in the operations of the call centers.  The call center executives who work for the US companies will have to disclose the location to the caller and also provide the customer with an alternative to transfer the call to call center in America.

The outsourcing is a disaster in the country and it is one of the reasons for the increasing unemployment in the United States.  It is not possible to prohibit it, although that can  discourage the practice.  The few call center jobs have come back in the US but it is still tehre thousands of the customers service jobs being offshored to the locations in India and in the Philippines as the cost of workers is cheap when compared to the US.  The Philippines have surpassed India in the call center industry and have become the largest Call center destination in the world.  By the Communication Workers of America, a union that acts on behalf of 700,000 workers the bill is being strongly supported.  The America have been deprived of the fairly paid call centers jobs as the companies outsourced such work to reduce costs.  The bill is an important move as far as workers and the customers are concerned.

The bill require all the companies that are planning to offshore their call center function to notify the labor department 120 days in advance.  The companies will then be put on a public list.  The bill is not going to get the support from anti protectionist members of the house.  Most of the US customers are frustrated with the long hours waiting and long calls with the executives abroad and with the quality of service offered by the Indian call centers. The communication workers of America will soon release a report on the customer fraud and identify theft, which is found to occur more at the call center in the offshore locations than in the America.
