    Obama bypasses India’s outsourcing capital

Kenny Jones adjusted the microphone waiting for the cue, he took a couple of breaths over the fading beats of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream before asking listeners to call in and left off stream over the problems on the airport road.  To the streets, everyday there are 400 new cars.  India’s high tech hub, it plays international music that has a massive following among the young technology crowd.

The place is really booming. In the another part of the rapidly expanding city from California a pioneering employment agency for the blue collar workers such as drivers, cooks and gardeners which uses text messaging.  The people text in the profile is a simple profile, they send back a text of matching jobs.  The phone is a digital tool that enables people to get connected to better information.

For Microsoft, blagsvedt came to Bangalore in the year 2003 but left four years later to set up Babajobs.  This is seeing an opportunity in the explosive growth of the cell phone usage in India which is now has more than 700 million cell phone lines.  There is a lot of hope in the city.  They did not expect to meet people like Jones and Blagsvedt in Bangalore.  The city is frequently blamed for taking American  Jobs.  It is India’s outsourcing capital and to b e Bangalored that has fast become a term for losing a job.  Some of 60 percent of the work done by India’s $60 billion Information Technology and outsourcing industry for the US is done here.  The industry employs around 4 million people and the Bangalore is the hub.

The President of the US Barack Obama chose to skip the city which used to be at the of the list for visiting dignitaries.  Obama was still a candidate, declared that they wanted to see jobs created in the Buffalo not Bangalore.  The city has continued to boom and Bangalore has now moved well beyond the call center and back office work where outsourcing started in the 1990’s. Employing skilled Indian workers, the city now hosts some of the world’s most cutting edge research and development work and the glittering new offices blocks here are a roll call of America’s Technology giants, employing highly skilled Indian workers.
