Lauding defeat of US anti-outsourcing bill premature

India Inc. is wrong to think that the danger has passed, the Senate might have quashed Democrat plans to force US to produce jobs and the profits at home rather than overseas.  The India’s news papers have been littered with the stories surrounding US President Barack Obama’s comments on the curbing outsourcing and India’s Inc. gross indignation at the White House’s intentions.  To see the bullish headlines following the Senate vote that effectively ended legislation dubbed the Creating American jobs and End offshoring Act. The India Inc. cheers defeat of anti-outsourcing bill in the US ran one leading daily while the another led with the anti outsourcing bill dies a quiet death in the US.  The death is a wide of the mark, with the crucial November mid term elections looming, the biggest issue for the US voters is the economy with many angry that the lauded economic stimulus Bill passed the last year that has not prevented the unemployment rate that rising above 10 percent.  The ball is in Obama’s court and if they can’t rectify the solution.  The Democrats will likely suffer at the hands of the electorate in the two months time.

The goal is to show that Obama and the Democrats as an incapable party is unable to govern and unable to fix the problems and that means blocking legislation, thus for the republicans who if in the power that would surely be contemplating the similar anti-outsourcing legislation to appease angry voters seeing jobs flourish in Bangalore instead of Baltimore.  With the four democratic, the Senate voted 53-45 for the bill far short the 60 votes needed to break a filibuster.  The Democrats crossing the aisle, the democrats portrayed the Republicans play that the patriot card far more often than their opponents.  India Inc is not out of the woods yet, after the November when the dust settled and most likely Obama faces a Clinton like situation of governing over a split legislature for the remainder of the term, the public will demand political compromise to improve the economy. With the far less gains to be had in playing politics and the rise of the far right Tea Party to counter, both sides may well favor a bill that protects American jobs at the expense of those elsewhere.
