    “Kashf: The Lifting of the Veil” debuts in New York

     

    By the South Asia Association, South Asia Institute, Organization of Pakistani Students presented the film that she also wrote and co-starred in to an overflowing crowd at Columbia’s Lerner Hall.  The Lifting if the Veil made its New York debut at the Columbia University. The first English language film out of the Pakistan in the last 30 years.  It explains that in an effort to play the Pakistan film to a wider audiences.  In Pakistan there are only 17 working theaters which predominately play Bollywood films from India. Through the main character, the firm looks at the mystical form of Islam that is known as Sufism through the main character Armagahan and his hunt for knowledge.  They are all on a path of self-discovery.

    It was not until much later that shooting commenced and four years after the Khan’s initial trip that the films was finally finished.  Despite the funding problems with the film equipment acquisition, shooting permission problems.  The film at the Santa Fe Film Festival, it was when Ali McGraw where it was nominated as an official selection.  The theater bookings began to tip, it would have people come up to them at the film festival getting the schedules to the screen at the art house theaters around New Mexico.  At the Berlin  Film Festival in February 2008 they screened the promo and she took the film to Cannes.  The soundtrack has picked up interest from the MTVs newest network called Iggy. This is an online portal to global pop music and culture and will be released on the iTunes under the soundtrack category on March 27.  The New York premier fell on the Pakistan Day, it is also known as the Pakistan’s Republic Day.

    On the January 27, 2009, the South Asia Institute, the South Asian Journalists Association and the New York Press Club  co-hosted a debate on the editorial outsourcing to India.  One of the panelist and publisher of the PasadenaNow.com made a headlines for his websites to use of the India-based journalist.  In 2007 over the 30 major publications covered the decision to begin hiring journalist in India to cover the Pasadena city council meetings via webcast.  By the other panelists, they provide an editorial production services from India to media companies around the world.  The idea of sending the editorial procedures to India is controversial because of the implication that has for job and media quality.  It has a business model that succeeds in many industries, a trend that they are now seeing in the media business. The difference is the trend now directly affects the same people who provided a news about outsourcing the people in media.
